"Right duties for today. Jim, Cas yet more disturbances on the Abalade Estate can you keep a close eye on it. Des, Reg Sierra 1. Tony you will be in the van with our new boy when he gets here. Hang around here until he arrives. Right the rest of you the same as yesterday," Gilmore said at briefing.

"Some people get all the luck," Tony moaned as they trudged out into the yard.

"You can talk we’ve got young tearaways on the Abalade Estate," Jim replied as Des and Reg walked past smirking.

"I haven’t been in the area car for weeks and as soon as I do Des gets it back and I’m left baby-sitting again. What a day to look forward too. Showing them the patch which I know like the back of my hand and they’ll forget in five minutes. I bet you he’s either some know it all hard boy who likes to go it alone and thinks he’ll turn this station round single handed or some wet behind the ears probationer who asks to many questions and hasn’t got a clue about hands on policing."

"Well I hope I’m not either of them Tony," A voice behind him said. He turned round and couldn’t believe his eyes.

"Luke Ashton, what are you doing here?" He said shaking his hand.

"I’m back, not the best circumstances but I’m glad to be here," he replied smiling.

"Good to have you back mate," Cass said and then her and Jim headed off. Tony was still in shock at Luke being back, he hadn’t seen him since he’d been a probationer there a couple of years ago.

"Well come on then, you can show me how much of the ground you remember, we’re in the van," Tony replied unlocking and getting in. They drove off Tony getting Luke to direct him to every edge of the patch.

"So come on then, fill me in on where people have gone to, Smithy and that lot," Luke said as they reached the renowned Canley Fields.

"Well Smithy joined the gun squad not surprisingly. Vicki’s gone off to the counties, things got a bit steamy after Eddie and an affair with Sergeant Boyden. You wouldn’t have known Roz. She was a probationer with Ben, one of the ones who died, I think she had money problems and the didn’t have the right attitude for the job, she quit. I expect you heard about the shake up in CID."

"Oh yeah with Don Beech and John Boulton, who’s new up their then?"

"A lot have gone again one way or another. There’s Debbie Mcallister, DS she doesn’t have much to do with uniform unless she wants something. DI Cullen, he’s all right. You’ll meet Des pretty soon, new area car driver. Thinks he’s wonderful, nobody else does you just don’t want to get on the wrong side of him. I assume you met Chandler, he was supposed to come in and sort the place out but it’s made it worse. He’s just on his own personal mission to the top and not succeeding very well, that’s our fault of course," Tony said in his usual moany way.

"Yeah I got that impression when I met him this morning. June Ackland’s still here, she told me about Sgt Crier."

"Yeah, he’ll be glad to know your back, so what have you been up to since you were last here?"

"Well I’ve changed a bit, grown up a lot I think, and I no longer live with my mum, got a place of my own know. I didn’t do much for a bit when I first left just sat around. Eventually I bucked up my ideas, went travelling for a few months. Australia, China, Canada, then I went to America. My cousin lives out there so I stayed with her. She joint owns a business so she gave me a job but I missed policing so she persuaded me to join the local police force. It was different from over here but a good experience, I stayed there for about fifteen months and then felt it was time to come back. Straight away I applied to rejoin the Met. After the refresher training they asked me if I wanted to come back round here. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to or not, I went to some county force just over in Essex. When this happened they asked me again so I thought I’d give it a go. I knew it would have changed a lot and wasn’t sure if I’d fit back in but I thought it should be my next challenge to overcome so here I am," Luke replied as they cruised around some haunts and hang outs of local petit criminals.

"Well it’s good to have you back mate."
